You don’t have to travel far to get the flavors of Greece on your plate. Though a summer in Santorini is bound to be lovely, Dallas has several restaurants with well-crafted plates capturing the heart and soul of Greek cuisine. From classic gyros to hearty moussaka, the options are bountiful around town. While we don’t condone the breaking of dishes in restaurants, here is a list of top notch North Texas Greek eateries that will have you shouting “Opa!”

Greek Isles Grill and Taverna

Greek Isles has a vast menu, but the seafood is the star of the show. The shrimp Mykonos ($31) is a zesty plate featuring pan-seared shrimp topped with Greek tomato sauce, and served with a snappy blend of orzo pasta and feta. Another good choice is the salmon ladoregano ($33), served with rice, vegetables, and a tasty lemon sauce. 5934 Royal Ln. #120, Dallas, greekislesgrilledallas.com

Atheneos Greek Village Cafe

Tucked away in a Mesquite shopping center, Atheneos Greek Village Cafe is a hub of Greek culture. Not only does the restaurant serve fantastic lamb chops ($25) and a flavor-packed moussaka ($18), but guests can participate in cooking classes, dance nights, and wine tastings on designated nights. 1425 Gross Rd. #100, Mesquite, atheneoscafe.com

Ziziki’s

Open for more than three decades, Ziziki’s is a Dallas institution. The trio of dips ($18) is the best introduction to a meal, showcasing side by side helpings of artichoke hummus, spicy hipiti, and spinach feta dip. Dive into the light Grecian chicken ($29), or the rack of lamb ($45), but be sure to save room for dessert. The baklava ice cream cake ($11) is a must. 4514 Travis St. #122, Dallas, zizikis.com

Kostas

If you drive too fast down Greenville Avenue, you may miss Kostas. This hidden gem maintains a familial feel inside a house-like setting. The dolmas ($10)—grape leaves, stuffed with rice and ground beef—are some of the best in the city, and are even better when dipped in the restaurant’s signature tzatziki sauce. The Greek Veal ($25), sautéd with mushrooms and onions, and served with a side of mixed vegetables and avgolemono soup, is a safe bet. 4914 Greenville Ave., Dallas kostascafe.com

Greek Lover Food Truck

Though Greek Lover doesn’t have a brick-and-mortar location, it’s worth grabbing a bite at if you spot the truck around town. The sandwiches are loaded with goodness and travel well. Among the favorites is the wholly vegan falafel wrap ($15), layered with hummus, tomatoes, pickles, cucumbers, and tahini sauce. Beef, shawarma and chicken wraps are also offered. Find Greek Lover at Klyde Warren Park on most weekends, but for most up to date tracking, check for posts on its Instagram page.

Stratos

Nothing beats dinner and a show, and at Stratos, guests get a festive Greek and Latin experience. Come for delicious plates like the Pastitsio Greek lasagna ($21) or the spinach and feta spanakopita ($21), and stay for the belly dancing and folk dancing shows. Stratos plays Latin music after 10 p.m., with guests encouraged to hit the dancefloor and groove into the early house of the morning. 2907 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, stratosdallas.com

Platia Greek Kouzina

Food and fun come together at Platia Greek Kouzina. Hear Greek music and sporadic shouts of “Opa” from staff while you dine. Start with the saganaki ($12), which arrives flaming to the table as your server shouts and cheers, and then order the lamb or chicken souvlaki platter ($15) with sides of hummus and tzatziki. 2995 Preston Rd. #1590, Frisco, platiagreek.com

Nikki Greek Bistro & Lounge

Located near Highland Park, Nikki Greek Bistro & Lounge is a neighborhood gem with a warm, cozy vibe. The restaurant has a robust menu of Greek cuisine, and guests will want to try a little bit of everything. The Meze Combo Platter ($20)—with hummus, beet-whipped feta, tiropita, dolmas, and a Greek salad—offers a great mix of starters; while the Moussaka Georgalis ($28) puts a southern spin on a Greek classic, built with Texas-raised beef, roasted eggplant and potatoes, and creamy bechamel. 5757 W. Lovers Ln. #101, Dallas, nikkidallas.com

Sevan G&G

Though Lower Greenville is known for its thriving nightlife, Sevan G&G serves up great food at all hours of the day. Arrive early for brunch, when you can try the eggs al la greek ($14), in which guests can order eggs any style paired with gyro meat, pita bread, and tzatziki sauce. Few things are better than starting your day with a flavorful Greek meal. 2221 Greenville Ave., Dallas, sevanmediterranean.com
